New magazine to focus on international children’s literature

A new magazine focussing on international children’s literature will launch in 2016, reports Publishers Weekly. The Read Quarterly is co-founded by UK-based children’s book specialists, Sarah Odedina, young readers’ publisher at One World, and Kate Manning, sales and marketing director at the comic Phoenix. The magazine will explore ‘the culture of children’s books, regularly featuring stories about publishers, book creators, and the history and tradition of children’s literature in a humorous and critical way’. Odedina told Publishers Weekly that the publication is aimed at ‘adults who are interested in children’s literature’ and will consider ‘what’s written, why is it written, and how does it relate to the tradition of children’s literature’. The founders are currently seeking funding through donations and grants, as well as sales and distribution partners.
