Small press titles dominate ‘Guardian’ First Book Award longlist

The longlist for this year’s £10,000 ($21,238) Guardian First Book Award has been announced. The longlist for the award, which is presented to the year’s best debut in any genre, features 10 books, including six titles published by independent presses, and a further two published in the UK by large publishers after smaller imprints released them elsewhere. Gavin McCrea’s Mrs Engels, which was published by Scribe UK, is one of six novels on the list, alongside one short-story collection, one poetry collection and two nonfiction titles. The winning titles will be announced in late November. To see the titles on this year’s longlist, click here.
