Text to publish new Helen Garner book ‘Everywhere I Look’
Text has acquired world rights to a new book by Helen Garner, to be published in Australia in April 2016.
Everywhere I Look is a collection of short nonfiction, the first by the author since The Feel of Steel (Picador) in 2001. Publisher Michael Heyward told Books+Publishing the book ‘glows with the wisdom of life and reveals all over again what a fearless, incomparable writer Helen Garner is’.
The book will include nonfiction ‘from backstage at the ballet to the trial of a woman for the murder of her newborn baby … from the significance of moving house to the pleasure of re-reading Pride and Prejudice’, as well as her ‘widely discussed essay on the insults of age, her deeply moving tribute to her mother and extracts from her diaries’.
Garner’s 2014 book This House of Grief (Text) won the 2015 Ned Kelly Award for Best True Crime and was shortlisted for numerous other awards, including the 2015 Kibble and NSW Premier’s Literary awards.
