UK Folio Prize will not run in 2016

In the UK, the Folio Prize has announced it will not run in 2016, following The Folio Society’s decision to end its sponsorship of the award. The prize is currently working to secure a new sponsor and, according to a statement on the prize website, will concentrate its ‘resources on another promising development for the spring’ with the intention of returning with a ‘full-scale’ prize in 2017. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the Folio Society decided to forego renewing its sponsorship of the £40,000 (A$86,300) award after completing its two-year agreement in May. This year’s prize was won by Akhil Sharma for his novel Family Life (Faber). For more information about the prize, visit the website here.
