Christmas Press awarded $10,000 grant to set up new imprint

Children’s book publisher Christmas Press has received $10,000 from Australia Post’s ‘Our Neighbourhood’ grant program to set up a new imprint.

The publisher, which is based in Armidale, NSW, will use the grant to create Second Look, a new list that specialises in ebook and print-on-demand editions of out-of-print titles by well-known Australian children’s book authors.

Second Look will launch in 2016 with Duncan Ball’s collection of comic plays for kids, This School is Driving Me Nuts and Other Plays, which has been revised and includes a new play. The book was first published as Comic Plays for Kids by Angus & Robertson in 1988, and HarperCollins has given permission for the original illustrations by Craig Smith to be included.

Two yet-to-be decided titles will also be published by Second Look in 2016.

Christmas Press publisher Sophie Masson said in a statement: ‘We are thrilled to receive the grant as it will really help with the costs of the set-up for the project and first three titles, and it’s also a great validation of this idea.’

Regional community organisations can apply for one-off cash payments of up to $10,000 through Australia Post’s ‘Our Neighbourhood’ community grants program. For more information, click here.
