Paul Kelly to headline inaugural Kampot Writers & Readers Festival in Cambodia

The inaugural Kampot Writers & Readers Festival in Cambodia, running 5-8 November, has announced its program. Australian musician and author Paul Kelly and Cambodian human rights activist and musician Arn Chorn-Pond are headlining the festival, and other Australians at the festival include authors Christine Benn and Robert Carmack, travel writer Lara Dunston, academics Brigitte Bouhours and Thierry Bouhours, and Books+Publishing’s Andrew Wrathall. International guests include Scottish crime author Steven Palmer, Canadian Jonathan Campbell, Belfast actor Hugh W Brown, and journalists Robert Carmichael, Luke Hunt and Minh Bui Jones. Sessions will include a discussion on the evolving noir movement in Cambodia and Thailand, a session for emerging writers share their tales of Cambodia, a discussion on writing for travel apps, a literary salon with poetry readings, a panel on journalism in the Mekong region, and a workshop on graphic novels. There will also be music concerts, cooking classes, children’s events, art exhibitions, book launches, book swaps and guided tours. Tickets to the festival are free. The festival has announced it is ‘an official sister festival’ of Ubud Writers & Readers Festival, which is providing some sponsorship. For more information, click here.
