ABA, Leading Edge conferences to be held in Canberra in 2016

The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) and Leading Edge Books will hold their 2016 conferences at the QT Hotel in Canberra.

This is the fourth year in a row that the two organisations will hold their conferences in tandem.

The Leading Edge conference will run from 27-28 May, with a joint trade exhibition with the ABA on 29 May. Leading Edge will also host sessions on Thursday 26 May for early arrivals. The ABA conference will run from 29-30 May.

Leading Edge group manager Galina Marinov said the conference ‘will deliver a mix of sessions—from best business ideas, to expert and author talks, to sessions on running successful and profitable businesses, to discussions on wider industry issues’. The conference will also include a cocktail party on 27 May and an awards dinner at the National Museum of Australia on 28 May.

ABA CEO Joel Becker said ‘the decision to hold the conference in Canberra was easy’. ‘All eyes will be on Canberra in 2016, with the likelihood of a Federal election happening shortly after the budget announcement in early May. The ABA plans on ensuring that parliamentarians and bureaucrats are reminded of the importance of bookshops to the retail and cultural community.’

The ABA gala dinner will be held at the National Gallery of Australia on 29 May.
