The Five Mile Press publisher and acting managing director Kay Scarlett said the shortlist was chosen from more than 100 entries. ‘It’s wonderful to know there’s so much great Australian talent out there,’ she said. ‘We started the prize to foster talented Australian illustrators who may not normally have approached publishers and it has been terrific to see more creators enter this year.’

The winning entrant, to be announced on 9 November, will receive a $4000 publishing contract with the publisher. The winner of the inaugural prize, Lucinda Gifford, will have her book Arthur and the Curiosity published in early 2016.
