‘Overland’ Victoria University Short Story Prize 2015 winners announced

The winners of the 2015 Overland Victoria University Short Story Prize for New and Emerging Writers have been announced. Barry Lee Thompson won the $6000 first prize for his story ‘Their Cruel Routines’. The two runners-up, each receiving $1000, are Genevieve Poetka for ‘Faking’ and Jennifer Down for ‘Alpine Road’. The three stories will be published in Overland’s final issue for the year. The judges, Overland editor Jacinda Woodhead, Victoria University academic Natalie Kon-yu and author Nam Le, described ‘Their Cruel Routines’ as ‘exceptional and unnerving’.
