A new writers’ festival specialising in sports writing will hold a ‘mini-fest’ on 21 November in Melbourne ahead of its first full program in 2016.

The Sports Writers Festival was created by ABC broadcaster Francis Leach, music agency director Andy Kelly and sports and entertainment manager Michael Edgley. Speakers at the mini-fest, which will be held at Federation Square, include Leach, cricketer Glenn McGrath, La Trobe communications lecturer David Lowden, author and journalist Gideon Haigh, football writer Kate Cohen and Guardian Australia deputy sports editor Russell Jackson.

The 2016 program, scheduled for October, will include ‘forums, workshops and interviews that explores all angles and capture the fleeting but eternal experience of sport’. For more information, click here.
