BBC launches year-long ‘Get Reading’ campaign

In the UK, the BBC will run a year-long campaign in 2016 to celebrate great authors and encourage reading, reports the Bookseller. The campaign, run in partnership with the Reading Agency, Book Trust, the National Literacy Trust, the Society of Chief Librarians and the Scottish Library and Information Council, will feature BBC TV programs on the works of well-known authors such as the Brontës, Rudyard Kipling and Roald Dahl, as well as BBC radio programs on the works of Alex Garland, Toni Morrison and Jeanette Winterson. In November the campaign will culminate in a ‘Get Reading Weekend’ featuring specially commissioned programs on BBC TV, radio and online. BBC Arts director Jonty Claypole said at the launch of the campaign: ‘We want to get more people reading to nurture a new generation and for them to have their say in the books that matter most to them. And we’re going to use the full range of our services—television, radio and online—to support that.’ Other events include a ‘Book that Inspired Me’ online campaign and gala celebration to encourage people to share their most inspiring books.
