Picture book wins Waterstones Book of the Year

Children’s picture book The Fox and the Star by Coralie Bickford-Smith (Particular Books) has won the Waterstones Book of the Year for 2015, reports the Bookseller. Bickford-Smith’s ‘elegant fable’ was chosen from a shortlist of eight that included popular titles Go Set a Watchman (Harper Lee, William Heinemann), The Girl on the Train (Paula Hawkins, Doubleday), A Little Life (Hanya Yanagihara, Picador) and My Brilliant Friend (Elena Ferrante, Text). Waterstones MD and chair of the judging panel James Daunt said: ‘This year a book has won our Book of the Year accolade through the impassioned advocacy of our outstanding children’s booksellers. The Fox and the Star is a book of great physical beauty and timeless quality, one that will surely join that very special group of classic tales that appeal equally to children and adults.’
