Griffiths and Denton top 2015 bestsellers chart

Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton’s The 65-Storey Treehouse (Pan) was the highest selling title in Australia in 2015 with 312,000 copies sold, reports the Age.

The sales topped those of its predecessor The 52-Storey Treehouse, which sold 225,900 copies in 2014 to become that year’s highest selling title in Australia. The ‘Treehouse’ titles were also the five highest-selling Australian titles in 2015.

Jeff Kinney’s ninth ‘Wimpy Kid’ title, The Long Haul (Puffin), finished second overall with 225,000 copies, ahead of Grey (E L James, Arrow) with 209,000 copies. Millie Marotta’s Animal Kingdom (Millie Marotta, Batsford) was highest selling colouring book, finishing in fourth place overall with 173,000 copies. In total, more than three million colouring books were sold in Australia in 2015, representing $4.1m, with four colouring books making the top 10.

Also in the top 10 was Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on the Train (Transworld) in sixth spot with 161,000 copies; Jamie Oliver’s Everyday Super Food in eighth spot with 142,000 copies; and American Sniper (Chris Kyle, Scott McEwen) in ninth spot with 115,000 copies.

The sales figures were supplied by Nielsen BookScan, which reported that national book sales increased marginally to 56.4 million in 2015 (compared to 55.4 million in 2014), with value growing from $937 million in 2014 to $979m in 2015. These figures do not include ebooks or self-published books.
