IPEd to open membership to individual editors

The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) will open its membership to individual editors from July 2016.

The organisation’s current membership comprises seven editors’ societies in Australia. Under the new changes, these societies will becomes branches of IPEd and their members will be transferred to IPEd.

In a statement, IPEd organisers said the changes were voted on by the editors’ societies and were supported by 82% of voters.

Organisers said the new membership structure ‘reflects that of similar organisations internationally and offers considerable benefits to editors’, including a ‘powerful voice’ for editors, a consolidation of administrative tasks and support for training programs. The organisation will also establish a national register of editorial services.
