Inaugural Rock & Roll Writers Festival to be held in Brisbane in April

The inaugural Rock & Roll Writers Festival will be held at The Brightside in Brisbane on 2-3 April.

The festival was founded by former band managers Leanne de Souza and Joe Woolley and aims to be ‘a weekend-long event that initiates discussion of how music and literature influence each other’.

More than 30 authors, musicians and artists will take part in events including interviews, presentations and panel discussions. In a statement, organisers said the festival aims to ‘surprise, entertain, enlighten and challenge—through discussions and interviews with some of Australia’s finest authors, songwriters, lyricists, commentators and ratbags’.

Among the speakers appearing at the festival are author and former editor of Time Out Melbourne and Triple J’s Jmag Jenny Valentish, writer and comedian Mandy Nolan and poet Samuel Wagan Watson.

A full schedule of events and sessions is expected in February. For more information, visit the website here.
