New YA festival to fund author visits to schools, libraries
UK author Alexia Casale has established a YA festival and author touring program that aims to connect libraries and schools, reports the Guardian. The first YA Shot festival will be held in London on 22 October and will feature talks, workshops and signings with around 70 local authors. The money from ticket sales will be used to support the touring program, which will see YA and children’s authors visit school groups for free events at their local library. ‘Last year a group of young adult and children’s authors got together and said “We need to help our libraries, and we need to make sure that even schools that can’t afford to pay us to visit can give students opportunities to meet authors.” So we set up a literary festival with a difference,’ said Casale.
