Harry Potter play to be published in July
The script of J K Rowling’s forthcoming play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be published on 31 July following the play’s opening in London on 30 July. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II Script Book, a play by Jack Thorne based on a new story by Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, will be published simultaneously by Hachette Australia, Little, Brown in the UK and Scholastic in the US and Canada. Hachette Australia published Rowling’s adult book The Casual Vacancy and crime novels under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, while the Harry Potter books are published in Australia by Bloomsbury. Little, Brown CEO David Shelley said in a statement: ‘We are so thrilled to be publishing the script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. J K Rowling and her team have received a huge number of appeals from fans who can’t be in London to see the play and who would like to read the play in book format—and so we are absolutely delighted to be able to make it available for them.’ As previously reported by Books+Publishing, the play is conceived as ‘the eighth story in the Harry Potter series’ and follows Harry as ‘an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children’ and his youngest son Albus, who ‘must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted’.
