US bookstore sales rise in 2015 after eight-year decline

In the US, annual bookstore sales have risen for the first time since 2007, with sales up 2.5% in 2015, reports Publishers Weekly. Based on preliminary figures released by the US Census Bureau, total bookstore sales in 2015 rose to US$11.2bn (A$15.7bn) in 2015, up from US$10.89bn (A$15.3bn) in 2014. The figures mark the first rise in sales for the sector since 2007, when sales were over US$17bn ($A23.8bn). The strength of bricks-and-mortar sales figures correlates to the reported resurgence of print books, after a period of decline, and the plateau in sales of ebooks.
