Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction 2016 shortlist announced

The shortlist for the 2016 Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction has been announced. The six shortlisted titles (which include three debuts) are: Ruby (Cynthia Bond, Hodder & Stoughton), The Green Road (Anne Enright, Random House), The Glorious Heresies (Lisa McInerney, Hodder & Stoughton), The Portable Veblen (Elizabeth McKenzie, Fourth Estate), The Improbability of Love (Hannah Rothschild, Bloomsbury) and A Little Life (Hanya Yanagihara, Picador). The shortlist was chosen from a longlist of 20, which included Australians Geraldine Brooks (The Secret Chord, Hachette) and Shirley Barrett (Rush Oh!, Picador). The winner will be announced on 8 June. The £30,000 (A$56,213) prize was established in 1996 and is presented annually to the best novel of the year written in English by a woman.
