Vogel 2016 shortlist announced

The shortlisted titles for the 2016 Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award have been announced.

The four titles on this year’s shortlist are: The Memory Artist by Katherine Brabon, an ‘intelligent, moving, Russia-themed meditation’; Rocky Road by Anna Daniels, ‘a romantic—and at times unromantic—exploration of a full-on life’; A Minor Fifth by Gareth Dickson, which is described as ‘voluptuous, funny [and] music-inclined’; and Coffin’s Reach by Christopher Przewloka, a ‘hard-nosed crime and family drama’.

Extracts from each of the shortlisted titles have been published in the Australian here.

Launched in 1980, the Australian/Vogel’s Literary Award is presented for a first novel by a writer under the age of 35. The winner, announced tonight, will receive $20,000, with the winning title to be published by Allen & Unwin and available in stores immediately.

Last year’s winner was Murray Middleton for his short-story collection When There’s Nowhere Else to Run.
