Perth bookstore Bookcaffe to close in June

Independent Perth bookstore Bookcaffe is closing at the end of June.

In a post on the store’s website, owners James and Rose Caffey said ‘it is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the closure of our beloved Bookcaffe’.

Rose Caffey told the West Australian the couple had recently sold the Swanbourne shop and the new owner ‘wasn’t interested in keeping the bookstore’. ‘It’s partly to do with diminishing sales,’ said Caffey. ‘The internet has had an enormous impact on bricks-and-mortar stores. But it’s never been just a business: our customers are like our family and we’ve loved every minute of the nine years we’ve run the store.’

Rose Caffey and bookseller Emily Paull will continue to work in the Caffey’s school and library supply business Westbooks in Burswood, where they will relaunch Bookcaffe’s book talk series.
