Third major book fair for Thailand

A third major Thai book fair will be held in the city of Chiang Mai from 25 June to 3 July, the Publishers and Booksellers Association of Thailand (PUBAT) has announced. Over 200 booksellers are already scheduled to open booths at the event. Book fairs in Thailand are largely consumer-driven bookselling events, with some behind-the-scenes rights trading. The fairs contain around 90% Thai-language books and the remaining percentage being mostly English-language books. The combined National Book Fair and Bangkok International Book Fair, running from 29 March to 10 April, featured 934 bookselling booths and 435 publishers participating in the event. PUBAT president Charun Hormtienthong told Bangkok Post, this year’s fair had around two million attendees and a revenue of over THB 500 million (A$19 million), similar to the numbers of last year’s event. The other major fair, Book Expo Thailand, is due to run in October in Bangkok.
