HarperCollins, Avenue Bookstore and BooksPlus awarded at Leading Edge Books Conference

A number of awards were presented at this year’s Leading Edge Books Conference in Canberra on 28 May.

HarperCollins was named Publisher of the Year from a shortlist that included Allen & Unwin, Hachette and Text.

Avenue Bookstore in Melbourne was named Metro Bookstore of the Year and BooksPlus in Bathurst, NSW, was named Regional Bookstore of the Year. Also shortlisted in the metro category were Readings and Harry Hartog Bondi, while Matilda Bookshop and Torquay Books were in the running in the regional category.

The award for Best Business Idea was presented to Amelia Lush from Better Read Than Dead in Sydney for her teacher-librarian nights.

The awards were presented at a dinner at the National Museum of Australia, which included presentations from debut author and musician Holly Throsby and international author Herman Koch.
