‘Take Me to the River’ wins 2016 Margaret Medcalf Award

Julian Bolleter has won the 2016 Margaret Medcalf Award for his book Take Me to the River: The Story of Perth’s Foreshore (UWA Publishing).

The Margaret Medcalf Award rewards excellence in referencing and research, and is named in honour of the second state archivist for Western Australia for her contribution to the development of archives in Western Australia.

Take Me to the River ‘charts Perth City’s evolving relationship with its foreshore, and imagines how the myriad alternate plans for Perth Water may have shaped our city’. The author is an assistant professor at the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC) at the University of Western Australia.

A Special Commendation also went to Murray Arnold for his book A Journey Travelled: Aboriginal-European relations at Albany and the surrounding region from first contact to 1926 (UWA Publishing).
