Henson joins SLV

Rebecca Henson has been appointed reading and literacy development manager at the State Library of Victoria, responsible for the library’s children’s and family programs and the Centre for Youth Literature (CYL).

Henson, who will commence in the position on 28 July, comes to the role from a career in educational publishing. She most recently worked as senior publisher at Macmillan Education and prior to that was publishing editor at Cengage Learning Australia.

In a post on the SLV’s Read Alert blog announcing the appointment, CYL program coordinator Adele Walsh said that Henson’s ‘experience in educational publishing and focus on literacy across a range of projects will bring an interesting skillset to the position, especially as the library develops its services and programs for young learners alongside the [library’s five-year redevelopment] Vision 2020 project’.

Henson will replace Anna Burkey in the role. Burkey, who was reading and literacy development manager at the SLV since 2012, left the library after being appointed Head of Arts Learning at Melbourne’s Arts Centre in March.
