Naoum launches consulting business, Critical Mass

Former Momentum publisher Joel Naoum has launched Critical Mass, a consulting business for authors, publishers and content producers.

Naoum, who left Momentum in February after Pan Macmillan decided to scale down the publishing program of its digital-only imprint, said Critical Mass will provide a range of services to individual clients, including advice on publishing and marketing strategy, connection to a network of freelancers and other publishing services, offered under a flat fee structure.

‘There’s a gap in the market for indie authors when it comes to the role of the publisher,’ said Naoum. ‘Self-published authors can find editors, proofreaders, designers and distributors, but they don’t always know whether they’re getting a good deal or being taken for a ride. They also don’t have access to the overall strategy a traditional publisher would bring to an author’s career.’

Critical Mass will also offer non-author clients strategic advice, technical and production support for digital publishing, marketing and other services.
