Frankfurt Book Fair launches new illustrators’ prize with $43,000 prize pool

The Frankfurt Book Fair (FBF) has announced a new international prize for illustrators with a €10,000 (A$14,530) first prize, reports the Bookseller. The prize is divided into five categories: cover illustration, children’s book illustration, editorial illustration, scientific illustration and theme illustration. The winner in each category will receive €2,000 (A$2910) and a further two ‘excellent award’ winners in each category will win €1,000 (A$1450), with a total prize pool of €30,000 (A$43,580). FBF director Juergen Boos said in a statement: ‘in today’s visually-dominated world, illustration and design are of increasing value and particular importance in the process of creating beautiful books. With the recent resurgence of print books, recognizing the valuable contribution that illustrations make in the production process is even more significant’. A panel of six industry experts will judge the awards. Entries are open via the IlluSalon site until 14 August.
