NZ Society of Authors to host inaugural writers forum in September

The New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA) will host the inaugural National Writers Forum at the University of Auckland from 17-18 September.

NZSA CEO Jackie Dennis said the forum is about ‘sharing opportunities and knowledge’ with targeted events for writers across different genres and to mid-career and up-and-coming writers. ‘We’re bringing together a community of writers and publishers from around the world and addressing issues of concern, from copyright reversion to freedom of expression,’ said Dennis.

UK author Chris Cleave will headline the forum. Other writers speaking at the event include Patricia Grace, Stephen Daisley, Toby Morris, Sarah Laing, Ben Sanders, Greg McGee, Catherine Robertson, Helen Lowe and Anna Mackenzie.

Other guests include publishers, agents, editors, festival directors and other industry professionals. The festival program includes workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, in-conversations, keynote speeches and the presentation of the inaugural NZ$25,000 (A$23,400) Copyright Licensing New Zealand Award for nonfiction.
