US Library of Congress hit by cyberattack

In the US, the Library of Congress website and other associated sites it hosts were offline for three days following a cyber-attack, reports the Washington Times. A spokesperson said the attack was a ‘massive and sophisticated … assault, employing multiple forms of attack, adapting and changing on the fly’. The denial-of-service attack overloaded the library’s networks with traffic, causing websites and some email accounts to close. A spokesperson for the library declined to comment on the source of the attack.
