First Bookshop Day planned for the UK

In the UK, the Booksellers Association (BA) is planning for its first Bookshop Day for the UK and Ireland on 8 October, reports the Bookseller. The BA is encouraging stores to host parties, book-signings and other events on the day, which has been scheduled to capitalise on several big releases on the 6 October, including new books by Sebastian Faulks, Michael Palin and James Patterson. This year’s ‘Super Thursday’, the biggest day of book releases before Christmas, is set for 20 October, with new books by Jamie Oliver, Martina Cole, Julie Donaldson and autobiographies by Phil Collins and UK MP Ken Clarke. The Bookshop Day replaces the Big Bookshop parties that booksellers were previously encouraged to hold in the lead-up to Christmas, while the BA will continue to run its Books Are My Bag campaign.
