Wilderness Society announces 2016 children’s book award winners

The winners of the 2016 Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children’s Literature have been announced.

The winning books in each category are:

Fiction

  • The River and the Book (Alison Croggon, Walker Books)

Picture book (joint winners)

  • Seagull (Danny Snell, Working Title)
  • Once I Heard a Little Wombat (Renee Treml, Random House)

Nonfiction

  • Atmospheric (Carole Wilkinson, Walker Books).

The award is presented annually to fiction and nonfiction books that ‘foster a love of wild places and wildlife in young Australians’ and ‘encourage a sense of responsibility for our natural world’. The winning books were chosen from shortlists in each category, announced in May.
