ASA announces 2016 Barbara Jefferis Award shortlist

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) has announced the shortlist for the 2016 Barbara Jefferis Award.

The shortlisted titles are:

• This Picture of You (Sarah Hopkins, A&U)
• A Guide to Berlin (Gail Jones, Vintage)
• Laurinda (Alice Pung, Black Inc.)
• The Protected (Claire Zorn, UQP)
• Hope Farm (Peggy Frew, Scribe)
• The Natural Way of Things (Charlotte Wood, A&U).

Two novels were also highly commended:

• In Between Days (Vikki Wakefield, Text)
• The World Without Us (Mireille Juchau, Bloomsbury).

The winner of the $55,000 award will be announced in October.

The prize is awarded every two years for ‘the best novel written by an Australian author that depicts women and girls in a positive way or otherwise empowers the status of women and girls in society’.
