National Book Award 2016 shortlists announced
In the US, the shortlists for the 2016 National Book Awards have been announced in the categories of fiction, nonfiction, poetry and young people’s literature. On the fiction shortlist are: The Throwback Special (Chris Bachelder, Norton), News of the World (Paulette Jiles, HarperCollins), The Association of Small Bombs (Karan Mahajan, Random House), The Underground Railroad (Colson Whitehead, Orbit) and Another Brooklyn (Jacqueline Woodson, Amistad). Shortlists in the other three categories are available here. The awards, which are open to books written by a US citizen, include a cash prize of US$10,000 (A$13,187) for the winner in each category and US$1000 (A$1319) for each finalist. The winners will be announced on 16 November.
