Canada to be guest of honour at 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair

Canada has been chosen at the guest of honour at the 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair, reports Publishing Perspectives. ‘The Canadian publishing industry has worked together for the past three years on this project, so it is with great enthusiasm that we welcome this fantastic news,’ said Caroline Fortin, president of the Canadian publisher Éditions Québec-Amérique, who led the push for Canada’s participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair’s guest of honour program. Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly said the government was ‘committed to ensuring that readers everywhere have access to a wide range of Canadian-authored books’. ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to enable Canada’s artists and cultural entrepreneurs to maximize their full export potential, to help increase their competitive position on the international stage, and to ensure long-term sustainability, which will contribute to Canada’s overall economic and social prosperity.’ Since 1976, the Frankfurt Book Fair has hosted a guest of honour to showcase the literature and culture of a particular country or region. Upcoming guests of honour are Flanders and the Netherlands (2016), France (2017), Georgia (2018) and Norway (2019).
