New Women in Comics festival to be held in Melbourne
Melbourne comics bookstore All Star Comics will present the first Women in Comics Festival, to be held in the store from 10-11 December.
The festival bills itself as a celebration of ‘women who read, create, cosplay, geek out over, feature in, and are curious about comic books’.
Among the international and local comics authors and illustrators attending the event are US cartoonist Hope Larson (A Wrinkle in Time, Farrar, Straus & Giroux) and Melbourne-based US illustrator Savanna Ganucheau (Tiny Games for Kids, Bloomsbury).
The festival will also feature Q&As, signings and a creator’s market selling comics, zines and crafts.
A spokesperson told Books+Publishing the two-day event will be an ‘inclusive environment’, and the organisers are ‘excited’ for the festival’s future. ‘There are so many wonderful women involved in comics, and the festival aims to bring them together to create connections and communities.’
