‘More of Me’ the first YA book to win Edinburgh First Book Award

UK author Kathryn Evans has won the 2016 Edinburgh International Book Festival First Book Award for her YA novel More of Me (Usborne), reports the Bookseller. Evans’ book is the first YA title to win the award in the seven years it’s been running. More of Me is the story of a 16-year-old girl who tries to hide the fact that every year she separates into two, leaving a younger version of herself stuck at the same age, in the same house. The festival’s children’s and educational program director Janet Smyth said of the winner: ‘I read Kathryn’s novel, More of Me, in manuscript form last autumn and I was immediately gripped by her characters and impressed by the subtle and skillful storytelling. She is a hugely deserving winner and a very exciting new voice in YA fiction.’ The First Book Award is open to any book that features in the festival’s public program.
