First authors announced for Perth Writers Festival 2017

The first guests have been announced for the 2017 Perth Writers Festival, which runs from 23-26 February.

UK author Ben Rawlence will give the opening address on the issue of refugees and displacement, while Syrian architect Marwa Al-Sabouni will give the closing address on the relationship between built environment and communities.

International guests attending the festival include UK novelist Jessie Burton; Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Mei Fong; US-Chinese speculative fiction author Ken Liu; Nigerian poet, playwright and artist Inua Ellams; US-German children’s book author Cornelia Funke; US-Nigerian author Chinelo Okparanta; and Indonesian travel writer and photographer Agustinus Wibowo.

Local authors include Rajith Savanadasa, Julie Koh, Nick Earls, Clementine Ford, Deng Thiak Adut, Carmel Bird, David Francis and Peter Helliar.
