Full program announced for Perth Writers Festival 2017

The full program has been announced for the 2017 Perth Writers Festival, which runs from 23-26 February.

Events at the festival include ‘Pondering our most precious liquid’, a panel discussion on water featuring the creator of London’s Museum of Water; ‘#headlines’, a panel discussion with US writer Lindy West and journalists Mark Colvin and Mark Di Stefano; British journalist Patrick Cockburn and Syrian architect Marwa al-Sabouni discussing the death and displacement caused by the Syrian war in ‘Casualties of War’; and the announcement of the winner of the 2017 Dorothy Hewett Award at a ceremony on 25 February.

A Harry Potter-themed family day will be held on 26 February.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, international guests include UK novelist Jessie Burton; Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Mei Fong; US-Chinese speculative fiction author Ken Liu; Nigerian poet, playwright and artist Inua Ellams; US-Nigerian author Chinelo Okparanta; Indonesian travel writer and photographer Agustinus Wibowo; and Chilean novelist Alejandro Zambra.

The festival also announced German-US children’s book author Cornelia Funke has been forced to withdraw from her two scheduled events.
