NGV announces new prize for art and design books

The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) has announced a new prize for art and design books.

The Cornish Family Prize for Art and Design Publishing, which is open to international entries, will honour excellence and innovation in art and design publishing.

The winner will receive $15,000 and up to five finalists will be awarded $1000 each.

In a statement the NGV said the prize is ‘the most significant’ of its kind. ‘The Cornish Family Prize for Art and Design [will] recognise the book in its entirety rather than individual elements such as graphic design or print production, making it unique in its scope,’ said the NGV. ‘The prize aims to acknowledge publishing as a key critical practice around the world and support innovation in the field.’

Entries are open for books exploring art, design, architecture and contemporary culture published between December 2015 to December 2016. The winner will be announced at the 2017 Melbourne Art Book Fair, to be held at NGV from 16-19 March.
