US National Book Critics Circle Awards 2016 finalists announced

In the US, the finalists for the 2016 National Book Critics Circle Awards have been announced.

The finalists in the best fiction category are:

  • Moonglow (Michael Chabon, HarperCollins)
  • LaRose (Louise Erdrich, Little, Brown)
  • Imagine Me Gone (Adam Haslett, Penguin)
  • Commonwealth (Ann Patchett, Bloomsbury)
  • Swing Time (Zadie Smith, Penguin).

Shortlists were also announced in autobiography, biography, criticism, nonfiction and poetry categories.

The winners of three additional prizes were also announced. Margaret Atwood received the Ivan Sandrof Lifetime Achievement Awards; Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel Homecoming received the John Leonard Prize, which recognises outstanding first books in any genre; and Michelle Dean received the Nona Balakian Citation for Excellence in Reviewing.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony in New York on 16 March.
