New service to improve arts workers’ mental health launched in Melbourne

Literary organisations are among the 83 arts groups participating in a new service working towards improving Victorian arts workers’ mental health.

The Wheeler Centre, Writers Victoria, the Emerging Writers Festival and Melbourne Writers Festival are among those comprising the Arts Wellbeing Collective, an initiative of the Arts Centre Melbourne and delivered by mental health advocacy group Entertainment Assist.

The pilot program will include workshops, training resources and a website, specifically tailored to the arts sector, ‘incorporating tools and strategies from positive psychology, as well as resources from clinical psychology to help improve understanding of mental health issues, their prevention and treatment’.

The workshop program has been developed by psychologists and other experts. The pilot program is targeted at arts workers sector-wide.
