Auckland Writers Festival 2017 program released

The program has been announced for the 2017 Auckland Writers Festival, which runs from 16-21 May.

The line-up of 42 international writers includes Man Booker Prize-winning US novelist Paul Beatty; US short story writer and novelist George Saunders; Man Booker Prize-winning Irish novelist Anne Enright; Scottish crime writer Ian Rankin; US author Roxane Gay; English author and journalist John Lanchester; Nigerian-US essayist Teju Cole; and US author Chris Kraus.

In total, more than 160 writers will take part in the six-day festival. Events include a charter boat excursion on the Hauraki Gulf with New Zealand author and environmental policy expert Raewyn Peart; Take a Walk on High Street’, where 20 writers perform spoken word games and theatre; and ‘The Ten Food Commandments’, an evening with author, restaurant critic and MasterChef UK judge Jay Rayner.

The festival also includes the presentation of the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards on 16 May.
