In the UK, the shortlist for the Orwell Prize for Books 2017 has been announced. The titles shortlisted for the £3000 (A$5547) prize for political writing are:

  • Citizen Clem (John Bew, Quercus)
  • The Seven (Ruth Dudley Edwards, Oneworld)
  • All Out War (Tim Shipman, HarperCollins)
  • Island Story (J D Taylor, Repeater)
  • And the Sun Shines Now (Adrian Tempany, Faber)
  • Another Day in the Death of America (Gary Younge, Guardian Faber).

The annual award is presented to a work that comes closest to George Orwell’s ambition ‘to make political writing into an art’.
