A&U to distribute eight new Wilbur Smith titles, 34 backlist titles

Allen & Unwin will distribute eight new books and 34 backlist books by Wilbur Smith in the ANZ market, after UK agency partner Bonnier Zaffre acquired global rights to the books.

Smith published 34 books with Pan Macmillan before he moved to HarperCollins in 2012 in a six-book deal.

Bonnier Publishing Group CEO Richard Johnson called the deal ‘one of the biggest in publishing history and a signal of our intent as we prepare for significant growth in the UK’. Smith has sold more than 130 million books worldwide.

Allen & Unwin CEO Robert Gorman said the publisher is ‘delighted to welcome Wilbur Smith to Allen & Unwin in Australia and New Zealand’. ‘We look forward to working with Wilbur to cement his place as one of the giants of international fiction.’

Backlist titles will be printed in mid-July 2018 and Smith’s new titles will be published two-per-year from late 2018.
