Davitt Awards 2017 shortlists announced

Sisters in Crime has announced the shortlists for the 2017 Davitt Awards for the best crime books by Australian women.

The shortlisted works in each category are:

Adult novel

  • Dead in the Water (Tania Chandler, Scribe)
  • Ghost Girls (Cath Ferla, Echo)
  • The Dry (Jane Harper, Pan)
  • Tell the Truth, Shame the Devil (Melina Marchetta, Penguin)
  • Goodwood (Holly Throsby, A&U)

Young adult novel

  • Yellow (Megan Jacobson, Penguin)
  • Frankie (Shivaun Plozza, Penguin)
  • Everything is Changed (Nova Weetman, UQP)

Children’s novel

  • Theophilus Grey and the Traitor’s Mask (Catherine Jinks, A&U)
  • Elizabeth and Zenobia (Jessica Miller, Text)

The shortlisted titles were chosen from longlists announced in May.

Judging panel chair Jacqui Horwood said the judges ‘have been impressed with the quality of writing, especially the vivid evocations of place’. ‘Best of all, we have been left breathless by breakneck plots and interesting, complex characters,’ said Horwood.

The winners will be announced at the Davitt Awards gala dinner in Melbourne on 26 August, to be hosted by true crime writer Hilary Bonney.
