easyJet stocks UK fleet with 7000 copies of classic children’s books

In the UK, budget airline easyJet has stocked its UK fleet with 7000 copies of classic children’s books selected by author Jacqueline Wilson, reports the Bookseller.

Books including Peter Pan, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz and The Railway Children (all Penguin Classics) will be placed in the passenger seat-pockets of easyJet’s 147 aircraft. Children can download free samples of other classic books and a sample of Wilson’s latest book Wave Me Goodbye (Doubleday) from the easyJet website.

The campaign follows research from easyJet that found that 83% of parents of children aged between eight and 12 said their children are reading less than they were at a similar age. The poll of 2000 British parents also found that children are reading an average of three books over the course of their summer holidays.

Wilson said at the launch of the campaign: ‘The long summer break is the ideal opportunity for children to get stuck into a great story. I’ve chosen books that children might not have read, but are familiar with, maybe from film and television.’
