First guests announced for 2017 Tasmanian Writers and Readers Festival

The Tasmanian Writers and Readers Festival has announced the first guests for its 2017 program, which runs from 14-17 September in Hobart.

UK author A C Grayling will deliver the opening address on 14 September, speaking on ‘The Challenge of Freedom’. Grayling will appear with Tasmanian philosopher Jeff Malpas and author Heather Rose.

The festival’s masterclass program is headlined by bestselling author Bradley Trevor Grieve, who will deliver tips on how to get published. Other writers participating in the masterclasses are travel writer Tim Cope, author and social justice advocate Arnold Zable, and novelist and science journalist Ashley Hay.

The biennial festival is run by the Tasmanian Writers Centre and is based primarily at Hadley’s Orient Hotel. This year’s theme is ‘Other Worlds in Words’.
