Sports Writers Festival 2017 program launched

The program has been announced for this year’s Sports Writers Festival, which runs in Melbourne from 28 October to 4 November.

Among the guests speaking at the event are broadcaster and academic Waleed Aly, former AFL coach Kevin Sheedy, journalist Angela Pippos, cricket writer Cate McGregor and writer Alicia Sometimes.

Aly will deliver an oration on the topic, ‘Australia’s obsession with sport: what does it say about who we are?’. Other events include ‘50 Years of Footy’, with Sheedy in conversation with journalist Rohan Connolly; ‘The Debate’, with Sometimes, Pippos, Tony Wilson and Matthew Hardy arguing whether or not there is ‘such a thing as too much footy’; and ‘Wrestling with Mental Toughness’, with former wrestler and mixed martial artist-turned-psychologist Christopher Shen.
