Almost 28,000 votes cast for Dymocks members’ favourite children’s book of all time

Dymocks Booklovers members have cast almost 28,000 votes for their favourite children’s book of all time, with 18 Australian titles making the top 51—up from 13 last year.

Possum Magic by Mem Fox and Julie Vivas (Omnibus) is the highest-placed local entry, in third spot, behind The Very Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle, Penguin) and Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy (Lynley Dodd, Puffin) in first and second, respectively. Fox had four titles in the top 51, including Possum Magic, which has sold over 60,000 copies in the last decade alone.

Other local writers listed twice include Aaron Blabey and Alison Lester.

The ‘Harry Potter’ series, which has held the top spot for the past three years, slipped to eighth. Nine of the top 10 and 70% of the top 51 are picture books. Books for middle readers and books for young adults are split evenly at 7 titles each.

This is the eighth year Dymocks has published this list. For more information, visit the Dymocks website here.
