Spineless Wonders, Tablo, SLV to launch Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award

Publisher Spineless Wonders, online publishing platform Tablo and the State Library Victoria (SLV) have partnered to launch the Carmel Bird Digital Literary Award, a new prize for writers of short-story collections.

The award will offer three short-story writers the chance to be published digitally by Spineless Wonders, along with cash prizes totalling $3000. Submissions for the prize will be made through the Tablo platform.

Tablo creative director Jemma Birrell said she hopes the award ‘will encourage new works of literary excellence and in addition, international exposure to authors and community engagement on Tablo’s online platform’.

Tablo allows writers to publish their books progressively and connect with other readers and writers through its online communities. As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Birrell was appointed creative director of Tablo earlier this year to build the company’s partnerships with literary organisations, increase opportunities for Tablo authors and bring new writers to the platform.

The prize will be launched at the SLV on 14 December to coincide with the launch of Carmel Bird’s digital short-story collection Aviatrix: Eight Short Stories (Spineless Wonders).
